Home: Week 1 : Lorem Ipsum - The 1 Page Layout In Illustrator
Too put these Type and Layout skills into practice, we (you) will be creating a one page layout in Illustrator. The one-page layout will be in the form of a magazine advertisment.
You are to design a one page ad for IKEA's home office furniture line. IKEA wishes to expand the marketing efforts of their "Unexpected Workspaces" web site into print form. The ad will appear in magazines whose audience tends to be design savvy.
You will use the headlines "Home Office" and "Unexpected Workspaces".
The marketing department hasn't written the advertising copy yet, so you will use this dummy copy as a place holder for layout and design approval. Your ad layout must have room for three paragraphs of copy.
Lorem Ipsum - Select the text below. Choose "Copy" from the "Edit" menu. Open SimpleText, BBEdit, NotePad, or some text editing application. Create a new document, then choose "Paste" from the "Edit" menu. Save the new file as "lorem.txt"
Download the illustrator file below. It contains two versions of the IKEA logo. You may use either one. You may not change the color of the logos, or distort the logo in any way.
Click and hold on the image/link below (In Windows right-click). Choose "Download Link To Disk." Save the Illustrator file to your ZIP disk.
Use at least two of the images below in your design. Choose at least one product photo, and one lifestyle photo.

Keep in mind the audience for IKEA products. IKEA customers expect "design forward" products, so this ad layout should visually reflect that. Visit the IKEA web site for color and graphic concepts and ideas.
We will begin work on this project today, continue in class on Tuesday the 26th. Designs will be due on Thursday the 28th.
Final designs should be printed in color on good quality 8.5" X 11" paper.
