I.arc 211-212 Visual Communications: Week 1

Week 1 3/19 & 3/21 2002

Welcome to the second half.

As you've no doubt read in the syllabus, we will be studying and developing skills in graphic design.

Graphic design skills will prove most useful for you in the short term in producing your presentation boards for studio classes. As a designer, you will need to prove yourself to your employers, and convince potential clients to hand you a check. Your ability to convey your innovative design concepts rests heavily on your ability to communicate your ideas visually.

We will start by learning some basics of typography.

Like it or else, you will have to write down your ideas, as well as draw floor plans. Typography is where we give the written word visual presence.

Next, we will introduce page layout, add some type, mix it all up, and do a single page layout in Illustrtator.
